Get Out of
Your Head

Stopping the Spiral of Toxic Thoughts

Your thoughts shape your emotions, your emotions drive your actions, and your actions build your life. The spiral starts in the mind — and so does the freedom.

Mental Freedom Thought Work Spiritual Warfare

The Core Idea

The Spiral

Jennie Allen didn't set out to write a book about mental health. She wrote about the war happening inside her own head — and discovered that most people are fighting the same invisible battle every single day.

The enemy isn't your circumstances. It's the thoughts on loop — the ones that say you're not enough, you're falling behind, or everyone else has it figured out. Those thoughts are the battlefield. And you are not powerless there.

🌀

Thoughts → Emotions

Every emotion you feel began as a thought you believed. The feeling is real — but the thought that created it may not be true.

🔁

Repetition → Identity

A thought entertained once is just a thought. A thought entertained daily becomes a belief. A belief unchallenged becomes your identity.

Interruption → Freedom

You can intercept the spiral at any point. Capture the thought, question it, and replace it with what is actually true. That's the weapon.

The Framework

Allen's 5 Interruptions

01

Stop

Don't let every thought through the gate. Pause before you spiral. Ask: Is this thought helpful? Is it even true?

02

Capture

Write the thought down exactly as it appears. Getting it out of your head and onto paper strips away some of its power.

03

Question

Ask: Is this 100% true? What evidence contradicts it? Would I say this to someone I love?

04

Replace

Find a truth that directly addresses the lie. Not a cliché — a real, specific truth that speaks to the exact thought.

05

Surrender

Release what you can't control. Say it out loud: 'I let this go.' Some battles end not by fighting but by opening your hands.

"The spiral doesn't start with action. It starts with a thought you never questioned. And it ends the same way — with a thought you finally did."
